Mission
Northland Preparatory Academy is a public school housing a middle school and a high school. It was founded on the principles that:
- students thrive in a small school highly structured environment where the boundaries are clearly delineated,
- education from 7th to 12th grade should be fully integrated, with each grade providing the tools, skills, and knowledge needed for the next grade,
- by the end of the 12th grade, students should have acquired the skills and knowledge that will allow them to move into successful college careers,
- students perform to meet expectations,
- students need gifted teachers,
Both the middle school program and the high school program are concerned with teaching students how to develop effective study skills and training them to learn "how to learn."
But the curriculum moves beyond useful techniques of reading, note taking, test taking, and amassing a body of knowledge.
The underlying goal is to nurture the intellectual discipline and habits of mind that will result in critical, coherent, and independent thought, and to develop a capacity for problem solving and decision-making.
Northland Prep also features a highly selective HONORS PROGRAM for students who are not challenged by the normal school curriculum. Students in the Honors Program have most of their classes with other highly motivated students allowing a greater depth of study.
Northland Preparatory Academy was founded as a charter school by a group of parents and professionals in the community who wanted a highly structured, rigorous college prep program for the high school students of Flagstaff and the surrounding area. Northland Preparatory Academy is fully accredited by North Central Association (NCA). Northland Preparatory Academy is a full member of the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) as a Class 1a School.
Mission Statement for NPA "Northland Preparatory Academy provides a coordinated, individualized program of study that promotes academic excellence and provides educational opportunities for serious middle and high school students, regardless of gender, ethnic origin, economic or academic ability."
