Mock Trial

Do you enjoy debate or arguing with your parents? Would like to figure out how to become better at it? Have you considered becoming a lawyer? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, please join us TOMORROW after school 9/17/13 in room 101- Mr. Baron’s room for an informational meeting on Mock Trial.

Mock Trial is a competition built around a true courtroom simulation; it has been jokingly called the “intellectual contact sport”. Students are given a case (often taken right out of the current news) that they must read thoroughly in order to develop their materials. Each student serves in both the capacity of attorney and the capacity of witness, gaining two sided perspective on the law. The Mock Trial program enhances students’ knowledge of the criminal justice system and how the courts operate. Additionally, Mock Trial helps students with public speaking and presentation skills. NPA Mock Trial has been the Region 7 champion for 8 years running and NPA has placed at the state level three different times. NPA Mock Trial is considered one of the 5 “powerhouse” schools for Mock Trial in the state, and is the only school in Coconino County to offer and retain this program. Students who are interested in participating next should see Mr. Baron (101) for more details.
